This month came news that Zouk has been sold to Genting Hong Kong which wasn’t a terribly great surprise considering that there has been huge speculation that the original owners of Zouk have been considering selling before moving to their new Clarke Quay location. However, as of now, it’ll be hard to tell whether Genting HK will be able to continue the Zouk magic and allure. Anyways, the more immediate thing is the fact that ZoukOut 2015 is a little more than a month away! For those who have yet to get tickets to the biggest 2 day party in Asia, what exactly are you waiting for?! In the meantime, as usual, here are our picks for the 5 Days You HAVE To Be At Zouk!
1. Zouk Soundsystem Presents Goldfish & Blink (Sat 07 Nov)
Goldfish & Blink are a Malaysian duo from across the Causeway who are at the forefront of the DJing culture in Malaysia. Take a listen to some of their tracks on their SoundCloud and be prepared to be blown away by their talent. They’ve been validated and have received the support from some of the biggest talents in the world including Hardwell, Tiesto, David Guetta, Nicky Romero, W&W, Benny Benassi and more! It’ll be a fantastic night for sure and even better to support our own regional Southeast Asian talents!
2. EP!C Presents Showtek (Fri 13 Nov)
Showtek are comprised of 2 brothers from Eindhoven who have been making music for over a decade but finally got their big break a few years ago in 2012. The release of Cannonball in 2012 proved to be their big break and they’ve never turned back since. Since then, they’ve initiated a series of collaborations known as Crazy Collabs with some of the biggest names from the different EDM genres including Tiesto, Hardwell, Justin Prime, Bassjackers, Ookay, MAKJ and many more. If this validation from their peers isn’t evidence of their unique talent, I have no idea what is. Their global hit single, Booyah achieved a remarkable #5 spot in the UK Singles Chart. Just as Martin Garrix has Animals and Hardwell with Spaceman, Showtek finally have their defining track. The culmination of their success though has to be Skink Records, the duo’s very own label! They’ll be DJing at Zouk on Friday the 13th and this could possibly be the best Friday the 13th in a long long while.
3. Zouk Soundsystem Presents Fedde Le Grand (Fri 20 Nov)
This is the DJ that I’m most looking forward to in November. With a name that sounds distinctly French, this international DJ is surprisingly Dutch but one thing for sure, he is undoubtedly one of the biggest DJs in the world! He is an absolute legend at what he does, whether’s it’s getting hipsters dancing in Coachella or party people raving at Ultra Music Festival, FLG is in the middle of it all. Le Grand is definitely the name on everyone’s lips especially after achieving an impressive hat-trick of Beatport #1 in the overall charts with Autosave, Control Room and his massive remis of EBTG’s missing. Last year, he was ranked #35 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 and has long cemented his reputation as a true artist in every way possible. Already known as one of the most influential EDM artist, only one question remains, what’s next for Fedde Le Grand!
Check out his amazing set at Ultra and get ready to go CRAZY!
4. PARA//EL Presents Chris Liebing (Fri 27 Nov)
Chris Liebing is a German DJ who has been active since the early 1990s and to be honest, is the face of Techno. He has dedicated 25 years of his life to the performance, production, distribution and broadcasting of Techno on a global level. He has successfully done so by running a club, successful club nights, founded record labels, hosted radio shows and of course produced incredible techno music for himself and for others! This man is a man renowned as a unshakeable pillar of Techno and how better to enjoy techno?
5. Zouk Soundsystem Presents Cazzette (Sat 28 Nov)
Cazzette is to me one of the biggest breakout stars of 2014. Just as the Daft Punk duo will never be seen without their helmets, the Cazzette duo are never without their cassette helmets and to a certain extent moniker. Cazzette achieved mainstream popularity and acclaim with Sleepless and Blind Heart. The beautiful thing is that while they’re made in Sweden and definitely an EDM duo, they are also certainly bounded by no one’s playbook and rules. Cazzette’s journey into the EDM world has just begun but their future is certainly bright and I definitely want to be a part of it!
