In celebration of ten successful years in Singapore, Quintessential French fashion label agnès b. has lined up two months of activities, kickstarting with the opening of their flagship store at Raffles City Shopping Centre in late September 2014. As part of its 10th anniversary in Singapore, the brand will be launching the agnès b. x Polaroid limited edition Z2300 instant digital camera, which will culminate with the unveiling of the agnès b. PUNK+ Photo Exhibition tour in October 2014.
An illuminating photographic documentation of the punk phenomenon of the 1970s, the agnès b. PUNK+ Photo Exhibition will launch on 1 October 2014 with an exclusive preview at The Substation Gallery before opening to the public from 2 – 26 October 2014.
Designer Agnès Andrée Marguerite Troublé, or Agnès in short, has long been an avid protagonist of the arts with a keen interest in street culture. Since the opening of her first shop in the Rue du Jour in Paris in 1975, she has had her fair share of famous fans that include contemporary artists such as musician and activist Yoko Ono, pop culture phenomenon David Bowie, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and actress Helena Bonham Carter.
For over 30 years, agnès b has created an image to not only represent the chic and timeless but also the contemporary, modern and cutting-edge in its support for art, film and music. The agnès b. PUNK+ Photo Exhibition represents the latest extension to the designer’s involvement within the arts community.
The PUNK+ Photo Exhibition will showcase a selection of 28 photos curated from legendary photographer Sheila Rock’s book, PUNK+ – a visual document of an era of the punk movement in London, a revolutionary catalyst that transformed contemporary culture for the world of fashion, music and art. All 28 portraits of iconic celebrities of the punk phenomenon will be available for public purchase.
Agnès worked closely with Rock and her publisher from FIRSTHIRDBOOKS to launch the PUNK+ photo exhibition tour, which began in London and Paris in 2013 and now continues to Asia.
Rock’s full collection of 199 never-before- seen photos are published in the PUNK+ tome, which features musicians like The Clash, Chrissie Hynde, Paul Weller, The Sex Pistols, Generation X, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Subway Sect, The Damned and The Buzzcocks and other icons of the punk movement.
PUNK+ chronicles a key shift in British street fashion, providing fascinating insight into the revolutionary fashion phenomena that went on to re-invent music culture and deliver sweeping changes in the world of couture fashion.
Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to take home a piece of the punk culture from the pop-up store that will be erected beside the exhibition at The Substation Gallery. Inspired by the agnès b. Rue de Marseilles flagship store in Hong Kong, the pop-up store will carry paraphernalia of the times such as paperback novels, vintage vinyl records and fashion period accessories will also be available for purchase.
To mark the launch of the exhibition, Sheila Rock will attend the exclusive preview party hosted by agnès b. on Wednesday, 1 October 2014. The party will also feature a special appearance and performance by renowned bassist Glen Matlock.
The agnès b. PUNK+ Photo Exhibition tour will kick off in Shanghai and then Singapore before traveling to Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In light of their 10th anniversary in Singapore, agnès b. will open a flagship store at Raffles City Shopping Centre in September 2014. The agnès b. x Polaroid special collaboration limited edition camera will be launched alongside the official store opening.
PUNK+ merchandise by agnès b. will be available for purchase from the agnès b. flagship store at Raffles City Shopping Centre. Prices range between S$15 to S$495.
