Dancing with the Swans!

BASE Entertainment who just recently brought in the magical musical, CATS, will also be responsible for bringing in Swan Lake, performed by the world famous St. Petersburg Ballet. Swan Lake is ballet composed by Tchaikovsky and can be divided into four different acts and though it has been performed for over a century, it has recently been brought back into the spotlight due to the dark presentation of ballet in Black SwanBlack Swan was really the movie that launched Swan Lake into the minds of your average Joe and allowed us a glimpse of the complexities of the ballet dancer behind their seemingly effortless elegance and grace. Thus, I’m really quite excited that BASE Entertainment will be bringing in Swan Lake, especially performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet. This will be the first time that they will be performing in Singapore and their mission is to bring classical Russian ballet to audiences worldwide. The confidence of their tour producer to deliver their mission is really quite reassuring, “This is the real thing, grand-scale Russian Ballet. A complete classical full-length work. If you see only one ballet in your life, let it be this.”

Swan Lake has found a place in ballet lore due its unrivaled “white acts, its spectacular and dramatic ballroom scene, sublime music and deeply moving story.” It is a story that one will be forgiven for confusing it with a Disney production, a young Prince Siegfried, in love with Odette who has to overcome the spell of the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. But what makes this rather timeless is of course the deeply moving music by Tchaikovsky, one of my favourite composers and the dozens of white tutus and pink shoes.
