Pangdemonium, the creative brainchild of Adrian and Tracie Pang, will be making its return in its new 2016 Season of Love with The Effect. In typical Pangdemonium fashion, the play will be an atypical love story that promises to cut through the rose-coloured fog of Post Valentine’s Day. Happening from February 25th to March 13th, this is the perfect play for everyone regardless if you’re currently in or out of love.
Set against the backdrop of a clinical drug trial, this dark and edgy romance revolves around two young volunteers, beautiful psychology student, Connie (Nikki Muller) and charming nomad, Tristan (Linden Furnell). Sealed off from the real world and monitored by two bickering doctors (Adrian Pang and Tan Kheng Hua), Connie and Tristan find themselves increasingly attracted to each other. As the doses continue to double, so do their feelings.
What I love about Pangdemonium is that they’re willing and even eager to tackle subjects that are dark, deep and a little twisted. Topics that are more typically seen in psychological thriller films than theatre but in the hands of a great cast, it has the potential to be truly great. Whether or not The Effect will be great remains to be the seen, but it’s definitely worth checking out and Pangdemonium has always been consistently good in bringing out the darkness of the human condition.
“As the first production of our 2016 Season of Love, we have chosen a play that deconstructs ‘ love’ itself. THE EFFECT attempts to break love down into its chemical, biological and nut-and-bolts components, and while trying to solve the age-old mystery of love, we explore romance, passion, lust, jealousy, and some darker shades of the human psyche. Funny, sexy, poignant and thought-provoking, this play is the perfect antidote to Valentine’ s Day shenanigans – you will fall in love with THE EFFECT!” Adrian Pang
