The Lab SG is a Halal café that’s situated along Jalan Pisang, taking over where 7th Cylinder once was.
At a glance The Lab seems to be a pretty funky and eccentric place. The decor is an eclectic mix which plays well into the lab theme of the place. Their funky style of food presentation really makes the experience all the more interesting. Serving drinks in beakers with syringes and and using lightbulb salt shakers are some examples of their lab concept.
Besides the decor and presentation, the food itself is pretty interesting with several experimental items and some pretty obscure cuisines from places such as Hungary and Russia. Some of their more interesting items include the De La Huerta ($12.90) which looked like a mutated capsicum, and the Lab’s Concoction ($6) which is a mixture of fruits and teas. If you are daring enough, you can approach the counter to mix up your own concoction.
The fact that this place serves Halal food is a huge plus as it makes The Lab SG accessible to our Muslim friends as well. The next time you are looking for a place to chill or feeling adventurous culinary-wise, drop by The Lab SG.
